Celebrating Creatively

Jack-O-Light TPorter2006 via Compfight

Week 4’s challenge is Celebrating Creatively. How do you celebrate holidays, like Halloween and Thanksgiving? Click on over and read Miss W.’s post and then do either activity 2 (a poem) or activity 3 (how you celebrate Halloween). I know that Halloween is a huge holiday in the United States but in many countries it’s not really celebrated or it may be celebrated in a very different way. You can also write a comment here and tell us how you celebrate Halloween or Thanksgiving.

Using Images

Grandma's hands Sparky via Compfight

So, we’re a little behind with our Edublogs Challenge work. Week 3’s work is all about images and how to use them correctly in your blog posts. You can’t just use any image you want off the Internet. There are rules for you to follow. This is super important stuff so be sure to read all of Miss W.’s post for Week 3 before you do the activities. You can see I’ve used an image in this post. It’s from Compfight which is a widget available on Edubogs. It’s easy to use because it includes the attribution.

The activities look really fun. You can write about a favorite time with your family, a person who passed away, or interview a grandparent and write about it. Have fun!

My Avatar

I have one question for you all. So do you act different out of the internet? I know I do. I act wild with my friends at recess. Herealisticme2re I am very calm and even a little boring. In the real world I’ll run and scream if a exciting TV show is on. I also like softball. What do you like? I like to watch TV. But if you really want to express yourself make a profile picture so people  have a idea what your personality is. In my class we made  a avatar. It was very fun for instance I have brown eyes so my avatar has brown eyes make a avatar that is you!

This is my avatar.

Socktober! Change the world

Kid President wants to sock it! Sock what, you say. Homelessness. According to Kid President on  SoulPancake, every night in the United States an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. So this October, even though we are getting a late start, we want to help SoulPancake and Kid President by participating in the Socktober sock drive. He wants 2 million people to participate to prove that even the smallest acts of love, like donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless.

Did you know that San Diego rates third in the nation for homeless people. There are approximately 10,000 homeless people right now in San Diego.

We’re going to collect socks for a couple of weeks and then donate them to a shelter. We’ll post our progress right here on our blog.

We really liked the 3 questions that can change the world that Kid President asks in this video too. We’ thought we’d post them here on our blog to see what other kids around the world think:

1. What are you not okay with?

2. What do I have?

3. What can we do about it?

San Diego Life

Marriothotel.jpg

“Marriothotel”. Licensed under Public domain via Wikimedia Commons.

I love living in San Diego if you’ve never been here then when you have a chance enjoy it as much as you can. San Diego is very hot and sunny, it barely ever rains. But that’s the problem we are in a drought.

We’re very close to the ocean, and as I said it’s sunny. So going to the beach and going in the ocean is really fun! We have a lot of canyons. So I like to ride my bike in the canyon with my dad.

San Diego has a lot of places to go if you want to swim. San Diego is a main tourist attraction. in summer we have a lot of people because summer is the nicest and hottest season. We have a lot of people living in San Diego there is 1.338 million people that live in San Diego.

I love San Diego and I feel lucky that I get to live in San Diego.

My avatar

My avatarThis is my avatar I will explain how my avatar looks like me. First, the hair my hair is blond like my avatar’s hair. Now to my eyes like my avatars my eyes are green. This nose is the most realistic nose I found so I liked. You could say it looks like my nose but to me I just like it. Now my mouth I know its kind of a normal mouth but it looks like me. Now that was my head now to my body.

First the shirt so I have shirts that look like this one but, I normally wear unusual shirts but they didn’t have any unusual shirts so I picked this one. Now to the dog I’m holding I have two dogs neither of them really look like this one but, one has partly brown on it. I also have I think 8 more pets but I really can’t remember all their names… anyway back to my avatar. Now to my legs and feet.

My legs and feet lets start with legs now I like always wear long pants usually never shorts really. Now my legs are not the same story about my shirts because I usually wear black long pants like my avatar. I STRONGLY dislike shorts. Now to my shoes my Avatar’s shoes are green my shoes now are rainbow but my old shoes are green plus the website doesn’t have rainbow shoes. My favorite color is green too :-). That’s me and my avatar and how we are alike.

How To Take Care of A Cat

Hi my name is Imogen and this year in April I got a cat. He is a boy and he is half Siamese and half Burmese and he is black. Looking after a cat is a LOT of work. This is what you have to do to take care of a cat.

1. Feed the cat two times a day. (Does one of those times have to be at 6:00in the morning?)

2. Clean the litter (five times a day (how much does this cat poop!))

Beware of the tail. If your cats tail is swishing wildly, that means it wants to scratch you in the face. If the tail is swishing and the eyes are big that means it wants to bite your arm off or tear out your hair.

Beware of the SCRATCHY tongue! In the mornings you will get a licky delight – but remember – the scratchy tongue has been in places you do not want to share with your cat. EEEEUUUWWW.

After all that work, your cat is a cute and snuggly thing. Most of the time.

Dalia’s Avatar

Here is my avatar. First, I went to http://avatarmaker.abi-station.com/index_en.shtml and I made my avatar. I made it have dark brown hair like me and dark brown eyes also like me. I play guitar so I made my avatar hold a guitar. I wear glasses that look like the ones my avatar is wearing. I couldn’t really find clothes that look like mine so I chose the best ones I could find. I don’t wear pigtails that often but I used to so I picked those plus it was the only hair style that looked like my hair.

Here it is, my avatar.

And, here’s what my avatar looks like. What avatar site do you recommend?

Sophie’s Avatar

My aVATAR

Here is the avatar I designed to look kind of like me.

Hello, my name is Sophie and I am going to tell you how I made my avatar.

First I went to the website http://doppelme.com/  and chose my skin color . Next I chose my face to be a nice smile. Then I chose my eyes to be a brownish color and chose my eyes to be the shape they are. Next, I chose my hair to to be brown and be parted down the middle because that was the closest I could get to my real hair. Then I chose my clothing and shoe color. And there you go that’s how I made my avatar and how you can make yours too.

Have fun creating your avatar!!!!

Let’s make trash extinct!

Coastal Zone Management Act 40th Anniversary - NOAA

Attribution:

Calling all the people! Calling all the people! Trash is bad! Boats, jet skis, and ships are putting bad oils in our waters. Metal cans may take about 50 years to biodegrade, biodegrade means break down or disintegrated, so remember that soda can you left on the beach a few days ago… yup it’s still there! And did you know plastic bags take up to 450 years to biodegrade in the ocean! That’s a long time! Thousands of helpless sea creatures are dying because of this mess, and you can help them!

Mark your calendars! The Annual California Clean the Beach Day is coming up and its on Saturday, September 21! So… get up and clean! Everybody can help! The annual California Clean the beach day is runned by the california government and is trying their best to make trash extinct on their shores. The annual California clean the beach Day is also yearly event that happens every year and its coming up! Even though you don’t live in california you can still help! Just go to your local beach and clean up!

This pollution in the water isn’t helping the water. Giant oil spills happen all the time, oil goes in the water and stays there, for a long, long time, until something eats it…

Places like Pearl Harbor, Hawaii have lots of shipwrecks, some worse than others. Pearl Harbor is a lagoon harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, west of Honolulu. Much of the harbor and surrounding lands is a United States Army deep-water naval base. It is also the headquarters of the United Pacific Fleet. The attack on Pearl Harbor by the Empire of Jan on Sunday, December 7, 1941 brought the United States into World War II . The great navy ship that has been blown up by Japan in Pearl Harbor is still leaking tons and tons of oil everyday! And can you believe that Navy Ship has been leaking for over about a hundred years! And you can even see the ship in person!

Clean up the ocean! Its not just the beach, its the water! Do you surf, swim, or even boggie board? When you swallow enough of the stuff in the water it can make you sick and even maybe shorten your lifespan! The gas from boats, don’t help. Have you heard of the giant floating island in the middle of the pacific ocean? Thats not the only one theres about 15 of them! So.. get up and help! Lets make trash extinct!

Keep our earth clean

There are 3,091 active landfills in the U.S and over more than 10,000 old landfills. That’s a lot of landfills! What if we all recycled more? Then the U.S would have less active landfills. Many people recycle to save trees, and keep the earth clean, happy, and healthy.

If you start recycling there would be less landfills. People throw a lot of things in the trash can, instead of recycling them. Why don’t you  go in the recycling bin? Many say things can be recycled such as bottles and boxes. Bottles and boxes take up a lot of space, that space can be saved in the recycling center. If we don’t recycle all that trash goes into the landfill.

How do you know it can be recycled? Should this bottle go in the recycling or the trash? You know it can be recycled because on the bottom of a water bottle there are little recycling symbols on the bottom. in the middle of the bottle or container there is either the #1 or #2, and that means that it usually goes in the recycling can in your house. Instead of throwing away things that should be recycled, makes sure you go in the recycling bin. Usually people don’t look on the bottom of a bottle and just throw the in the trash. That is a landfill waiting for you.

Don’t use plastic bottles. Use a reusable bottle instead.

People reuse water bottles or reusable bottles to save money but this also helps save the environment. When people do this they don’t have to keep buying so many water bottles. There are over 2 million tons of thrown away water bottles in landfills in the U.S. says the Water Bottle Project. I think that we shouldn’t buy any more disposable water bottles. You should buy a reusable bottle so you don’t have to keep throwing away the plastic bottles. This will help save the environment.

You can recycle or reuse paper too. Use the front and the back of the paper. You know the scraps that you get after your done cutting? You can reuse those scraps to make anything you want without throwing it in the trash. This means less trash in the landfill too.

Do you want the world to be filled with trash? Think about it for a second. The world depends on this. You can use a reusable bottle and check the labels to make sure if something can be recycled. It just takes a minute to recycle things. Many people recycle to save trees, and make the earth clean, happy, and healthy.

Kids should not be able to watch “R” rated movies

Two Cops, Two Bikes
Creative Commons License Photo Credit: Thomas Hawk via Compfight

Do you care that kids all around the world watch R rated movies. Well about 100 kids do and about 50 kids learn bad things from them. I have seen people bully, and hurt people.

If you care about your kids don’t let them watch R rated movies.  Kids should not be able to watch R rated movies even with an adult.

R movies are movies about crime, violence, killing, kidnaping…  It is cruel that people let kids watch R movies because of the violence. That is why so many people are bullying and hurting people. That is also why their are so many robberies.

Kids that watch R movies are likely to drink or smoke. When people smoke they get addicted and keep doing it then you get cancer and die. Some people kidnap, commit suicide, or murder. If all the kids in the world watched R movies half of the kids would kidnap, commit suicide, or murder.

The parents should go to jail if they let their kid watch an R movie because they learn bad things. Sometimes adults let kids watch R movies because they’re crazy. Some parents want their kids to watch R movies and be crazy because they are. Their might be less acts of violence because they might not learn bad things.

I have seen a kid on the sidewalk sick because she drank after watching an R movie. So if you see a kid watch an  R Rated movie tell them what will happen and why.
