Skyrim, one incredible game

2157226-alduin1

this is ALDUIN from skyrim

Skyrim is an awesome video game! In skyrim you must kill ALDUIN the dragon or you can roam and do what ever you want!!!But there are many challenges in your way like dragons, giants, and even vampires. When you play you must make smart moves like not trying to kill a greybeard, that will kill you not them. There are also quests that even can make you a werewolf that you control!!!Also do NOT mess with a giant [ last time I did they killed me]. In SKYRIM you can get diseases and even put into JAIL for things like lyconthropy (turning into a werewolf in sight of a guard or civilian). Also along with that things like stealing or worse MURDER.There are many giants in skyrim that herd mammoths so if you see a mammoth stay away… unless you have the right equipment ( dragon bone or Daedric armors are the best ) and plenty of potions.  There are also DLC packs that add extra things and quests like the dawnguard .

This game is rated M for mature only so ask a parent before playing Skyrim. This game gives the spirit of adventure and survival. Also, the graphics are amazing because they are super realistic.

The First Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a holiday celebrated in the United States of America. It is celebrated in the fourth Thursday of November every year. It is a holiday when we give thanks to what we have. I will now tell you about the first Thanksgiving.

The first Thanksgiving wasn’t on the fourth Thursday of November, it was in late October, 1621. The first Thanksgiving was a feast to declare peace between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans. The Pilgrims were a group of English settlers. They fled England because they persecuted for their religious beliefs. They sailed on a boat called the Mayflower. The Mayflower stopped at place in what is now New England, and the Pilgrims named it New Plymouth . When they first arrived at Plymouth they noticed that there were other people there. Today we call those people the indians or Native Americans.

The Indians and Pilgrims  became friends. The Indians taught the Pilgrims how to pick corn, and fish with their bare hands. They then decided to have a feast to give thanks to each other because they had learned a lot of things from each other. The feast was also meant to declare peace between the Pilgrims and the Indians.

Today we celebrate Thanksgiving to give thanks to what we have. And that is what I know of the first Thanksgiving. Check out this short video about the first Thanksgiving.

Droughts

Do you know what a drought is? If you don’t, keep reading to find out.

Silk Road #12

This is what soil looks like in an area that is suffering severe drought.

A drought is a long period of time when there is a water shortage and it has barely rained. This is bad because it can cause crop loss which is when it is so hot that crops wilt. When crops wilt we also have food shortage.

What causes drought?

  • Greenhouse gases cause drought.  How? When people use fossil fuels, it lets of greenhouse gases which stay in Earth’s atmosphere and cause heat
  • Global warming and climate change. How? Another cause of drought is global warming and climate change because as years pass it keeps getting hotter and hotter and heat causes water to evaporate
  • Us! How?  You are probably thinking, Us? How did us humans cause drought?  We humans cause drought by wasting water. Sometimes it’s when leave the sink on while we’re brushing are teeth. Sometimes it’s when you flush the toilet when it is not necessary.

But the people who caused it can also help. We can conserve(save) water. Don’t keep the sink on when you’re brushing your teeth. Be extra careful that you don’t flush the toilet by accident.

Remember to take your part and take drought down!

Mercury is the smallest planet and is the closet planet to the sun. It takes 88 earth days for Mercury to finish a year. The planet Mercury is named after the Roman god Roman Deity Mercury the messenger of the gods. The surface of Mercury that is facing the sun has a extreme temperature of 472 Celsius but the is not facing the sun is -173 Celsius, but Mercury is not the hottest planet Venus is. Mercury has different seasons unlike some of the other planets such as Earth. Mercury has appearance to look like the moon and has the most craters ever. Mercury has a equator of 4,879 kilometers. Only two spacecraft carriers have visited Mercury on in 1974 to 1975 and the other one in 2004. In conclusion Mercury is a very interesting planet. Harlequin Bugs

Harlequin bug

Nymph harlequin bug

When we went to Rose Canyon our nice tour guides showed us the Harlequin bug. These bugs are very fascinating and smart at the same time. The Harlequin bug is part of the Pentatomidae species but the scientific name for the Harlequin bug is Mugantia Pentatomidae. They are very annoying around veggies such as radishes ,broccoli , and an oriental flower called the Cleome. The harlequin bug is actually a beetle because every beetle a a line down their back that kinda makes the shape of a triangle. A Harlequin bug’s way of defense is falling down. That way predators won’t get to touch it, grab it ,or eat it. Baby Harlequin  bugs can be as small as two centimeters but the biggest  Harlequin bug that we saw was about half an inch. Some people in our class went there last year and they saw 2 harlequins bugs mating together to produce offspring. I really saw that the development of the Harlequin bugs have increased with more nymphs and adults since last year. Harlequin bugs are NOT poisoness  the are NOT harmful either so if you see one don’t worry. Harlequin bugs are fascinating bugs to learn about and to observe in real life .

Veterans Day Around the World

On Tuesday, November 11th we will have a day off school to honor our veterans. This holiday is a special day to honor all the brave men and women who served in the armed forces, like the army, navy, marines corps, air force, and coast guard. These people risked their lives to make sure the rest of us can enjoy the freedom we often take for granted.

Here’s a short video about how Veterans’ Day was started.

This holiday is recognized throughout the world. We were wondering how you honor the veterans in your country? What are some things you could do to show your appreciation or gratitude to veterans?

Ava’s Avatar

avatarI’m Ava and this is my avatar. I made my avatar at http://doppleme.com. My avatar has blue eyes like me. She has blond hair, jeans, and a t-shirt because that’s what I usually wear. I chose that shirt because I have always wanted to go to New York City. My favorite season is fall so I put a pumkin by my avatars leg. You can make your avatar at http://doppleme.com. Good luck.

Cute Cats

MelDo you love cats? Well, I love cats and that’s what this post is about. Cats have better hearing than people and dogs. They can hear a tiny mouse in the walls that you don’t even notice. Cats lick their selves to get clean. Cats only like to get wet if they decide too. Other wise they hate it. Also don’t make them too mad or they’ll scratch you with their claws. Their claws are in their paws. Lastly what I have to say is CATS ARE CUTE!

Save trees!

Laguna de las Lavanderas

Trees are important to our planet.

Did you ever notice we use a lot of things from trees? Well, we do. We use wood to make pencils and houses. But those lumberjacks are forgetting why trees are important. For one thing animals like birds live in trees and you cut down their homes, lumberjacks! Secondly, if we cut down trees more carbon dioxide goes in the air. This can cause droughts{which is a long period with no rain you’ll see so in another post}. Trees help us breathe. They take carbon dioxide though their leaves then give out oxygen. Trees are important so let’s save them!

Music

We have been learning how to play musical instruments in music. Only fourth and fifth graders can play, though. There is a beginning band and strings and there is also a advanced band and strings. In beginning strings and advanced strings the instruments are the same. There’s Cello, Viola, and Violin. In beginning and advanced band the instruments are, trumpet, flute, trombone percussion like snare drums, and clarinets. Our teacher’s name is Mr. Hoffman.

If you are interested in playing an instrument you should go tohttps://sites.google.com/site/gkbeginningband/. The guy tells you how to play music in the book “the Standard of Excellence.” But the guy has big hands so he doesn’t have to bend his hand to reach some keys on the flute. He also tells you how to assemble your instrument.I hope you want to play an instrument to.

Socktober! Change the world

Kid President wants to sock it! Sock what, you say. Homelessness. According to Kid President on  SoulPancake, every night in the United States an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. So this October, even though we are getting a late start, we want to help SoulPancake and Kid President by participating in the Socktober sock drive. He wants 2 million people to participate to prove that even the smallest acts of love, like donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless.

Did you know that San Diego rates third in the nation for homeless people. There are approximately 10,000 homeless people right now in San Diego.

We’re going to collect socks for a couple of weeks and then donate them to a shelter. We’ll post our progress right here on our blog.

We really liked the 3 questions that can change the world that Kid President asks in this video too. We’ thought we’d post them here on our blog to see what other kids around the world think:

1. What are you not okay with?

2. What do I have?

3. What can we do about it?

How Halloween was created

Have you wondered how Hallobooh!ween was created? Well here is how it was create from real facts researched  by me.

Halloween was first known as a festival and celebration by Samhain. Samhain was part of the ancient Celtic religion  in Britain at the time, Samhain was also in some other regions and countries of Europe said Google and bbc.co.uk. I read  an article that said, “At the end of Summer the border between the human world and the ghostly spirit world would get very thin that it sent the Celtics the message  that peculiar  spirits and ghouls and would be lurking out and about to the human world.” The Celtics would have a grand and big party that was all about scaring spirits away lurking ghouls and spirits. But later on the Christian religion got involved with it and the eve of November 1 became All Hallo’s eve.

America’s first Halloween took place in the 19th century when Irish immigrants immigrated to the U.S.A then when the word was spread out about Halloween , from there Halloween in America rose to it’s popularity with trick or treating, costumes, and most importantly CANDY!!!

Painting like Piet Mondrian

20141017-093229.jpgLast week in art we made pictures in the style of Piet Mondrian. He was known for his modern style of painting. Piet Mondrian was born on March 7th, 1872 in the Netherlands. During his lifetime he made many pictures in the style of drawing an object and making vertical and horizontal lines and he colored some of them primary colors and left other white. Piet died on February 1, 1944 in New York.

In art we painted in Piet Mondrian style. We each drew a animal. Most of us drew beautiful horses. Others drew mysterious jellyfish. But we all made wonderful pictures in the style of the great artist, Piet Mondrian.

If you are feeling in the mood, YOU can draw your own painting, Piet Mondrian style.

The Road Not Taken

We are reading Robert Frost’s poem, The Road Not Taken. What do you think the poem is about?

The Road Not Taken

By Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Science is Number 1!

20141008-101406.jpgWe really like science because we are like real scientists. Right now in our science lab we are learning about landforms. We are learning about mountains, canyons, plateaus, dunes, valleys, meanders, plains, floodplains, beaches, and deltas. We have papers that say the landforms and gives the definition of it. I have never heard of some of these landforms.

Today in science lab we learned about acid rain and what it does. We needed to wear safety goggles because we were handling liquids. We needed safety goggles during our experiment because vinegar is an acid and it can burn your skin. We had to share them because we are a class of 34 students. We have filled a big cup with water and filled it up halfway. Next, we took syringes and extracted the water and put it into a smaller cup. We all took turns. We put 25 ML of water and then we put in 5 ML of vinegar in another cup. This was very fun to do.

What will happen when we mix the water and the vinegar? We thought it would bubble. It did but not a lot. We added a rock to the mixture and it smoke a little more. The rock dissolved a tiny bit.

We talked about acid rain. Did you know that it breaks down rocks that’s called erosion? It takes one day for the rocks to go through the process of erosion.

If you want to try this yourself, here is the recipe for doing this experiment:

1. This is the strong one: 20 ML of vinegar and 5 ML of water and add in a rock

2. This is the weak one: 5 ML of vinegar and 20 ML of water and add in a rock

Remember, if you try this at home you need to wear safety goggles.
